Can you Spot the Dog?

Portable Dog Kennels

There are many types of kennels for dogs on the market and they go by different names, they could be called the traditional dog kennel, a dog crate or pen and can come in many varieties including aluminium and plastic as well as the traditional wooden variety. If you are travelling though it is better to buy an aluminium one, simply because of the safety. Plastic kennels are sturdy and more durable however they have the small disadvantage of taking up a lot of space and they don't fold for storage.

Aluminium crates for dogs on the other hand are lightweight and can be fixed or folding, they don't rust and have superb airflow and are the top choice for vetenary workers as they give full visibility. They are also excellent for travel as they are next to indestructable with proper bracing and they are appealing to look at compared to other types such as the plastic dog kennels, as you can actually see your dog.

Wire crates for dogs can be folded for transport and storage but they do come with a couple of significant drawbacks; they can be fairly weighty and awkward to put up the first couple of times. These crates are widely used at veterinary hospitals, at dog shows and at dog boarding kennels. There are a variety of pads and covers available to make them more comfortable too. Wire crates hold the advantage that even though they are heavy they allow the dog to be seen from all angles, making them perfect for dog shows and they rosettes you win can be hung easily for display.

Soft crates for dogs can be folded for transport and are lightweight however it is important to be aware that they are not suitable for dogs who like to chew and they are unsuitable for transporting dogs in any type of automobile.

Dog tents are a new alternative to soft crates, they have the advantages of soft crates but il fold to a smaller size and are ultra-lightweight and can be placed in tent bags and taken anywhere. They make good alternatives for people who like soft crates yet are low on room in their car or hike a lot. They are not suitable however for puppies, dogs who like to leave presents in the morning for you or for travel in vehicles.

Fixed Dog Kennels

A kennel is a name for any building or structure used to shelter dogs, they are also known by the name of doghouse, however this tends not to be a common term since that usually given to mean that someone is in trouble or is being shunned. If the plural is used it is usually understood to be a professional establishment or property in which dogs are housed or bred. Breeding kennels are strictly regulated however and must follow rules of conduct.

Boarding Kennels

These are were a dog is placed while master is away on holiday or business and they tend to be housed for a fee and they are usually "run" 3 times a day to release stress and it is not uncommon for familiar toys bearing the smells of home to be left with them. The average kennel costs per year are quite high, running to $250 per year and for cats $150

Thanks for commenting, I was actually thinking about it because the dog across the alley from me just won't shut up...was thinking of either this or a bullet, and they tend to be frowned upon :p
